Rumen Fluid Amine/Phenol-Metabolome of Beef Steers with Divergent Residual Feed Intake Phenotype

چکیده

The amine/phenol-metabolome of rumen fluid was analyzed to identify amino acid metabolism-related biomarkers associated with phenotypic selection for low or high residual feed intake (RFI) in beef cattle. Fourteen steers (most feed-efficient (HFE; RFI = −1.89 kg/d, n 7) and least (LFE; +2.05 7)) were selected from a total 56 crossbred growing (average BW 261 ± 18.5 kg) after 49-d feeding period dry lot equipped two GrowSafe nodes. Rumen samples collected 4 h on d 56, 63, 70 the HFE LFE steers. Metabolome analysis performed using chemical isotope labeling/liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry all metabolites containing amine/phenol groups, which are mostly metabolites. A 493 detected identified fluid. partial squares discriminant scores plot showed slight separation between groups steers, eight found be differentially abundant (FDR ≤ 0.05). Out metabolites, four (isomer 1 cadaverine, baeocystin, 6-methyladenine, N(6)-methyllysine) qualified as candidate divergent phenotype based area under curve ≥ 0.70. results this study revealed that is alteration

Gene expression differences in Longissimus muscle of Nelore steers genetically divergent for residual feed intake

Residual feed intake (RFI), a measure of feed efficiency (FE), is defined as the difference between the observed and the predictable feed intake considering size and growth of the animal. It is extremely important to beef production systems due to its impact on the allocation of land areas to alternative agricultural production, animal methane emissions, food demand and cost of production. Glob...

Methane emissions, body composition, and rumen fermentation traits of beef heifers differing in residual feed intake.

This study examined the relationship of residual feed intake (RFI) and performance with methane emissions, rumen fermentation, and digestion in beef heifers. Individual DMI and growth performance were measured for 22 Simmental heifers (mean initial BW 449 kg, SD = 46.2 kg) offered grass silage ad libitum for 120 d. Ultrasonically scanned muscle and fat depth, BCS, muscularity score, skeletal me...

Relationship of rumen fluid dilution rate to rumen fermentation and dietary characteristics of beef steers.

Data from seven beef steer trials were compiled and regression analyses used to evaluate relationships among molar proportions of acetate (Ac), propionate (Pr) and butyrate (Bu), total concentration of volatile fatty acids (VFA), rumen ammonia (NH3), rumen pH, rumen fluid dilution rate (FDR), rumen fluid volume (FVOL), body weight (WT), dry matter intake (DMI) and dietary concentration and inta...

Molecular basis for residual feed intake in beef cattle.

Feed provision is one of the greatest costs of beef production and, with the increasing costs of feed, will remain so for the foreseeable future. Improvement in efficiency has the potential to not only increase profits for cattle producers, but also to decrease the environmental footprint of beef cattle production. Both are important in addressing the challenges of increasing feed costs and lan...
